It’s easy to renew your vehicle registration using Express Renewal and your registry of choice.

What you need to renew your vehicle online
You can start an Express Renewal by accessing the service one of the following ways:
- You can find a link to Express Renewal on your registry’s own website
- Not all registries offer Express Renewal—check out your registry’s website to see what services are available.
- If you need to choose a different registry you can find a list of Alberta registry agents at aara.ca (click What We Do at the top of the screen, and then Member Directory)
- If you receive reminders by email or text through the Renewal Reminder Service, you can click the Renew Online Now link in your reminder notice.
What’s the Renewal Reminder Service all about?
- If you access your Renewal Reminder Account by following the instructions at reminders.e-registry.ca, you can click the Renew Online Now link that appears when you access or edit your account.
To do an online renewal using Express Renewal, you need to make sure you have:
- your license plate number
- your vehicle registration number
- a valid credit card
Your vehicle registration number is located on your current registration certificate, under the box labelled Section 1. The registration number starts with “R” and is nine digits long.
How do I renew my vehicle using Express Renewal?
When you click the Renew Online Now link, you will jump right into the Express Renewal!

Fill in your Customer Information.
You will need to provide an email address and a phone number.

Fill in your Vehicle information.
Provide your license plate number, registration number, vehicle type, and the name and address on the vehicle registration.
If you are a senior, don’t forget to check the box in order to receive your Senior Discount.
If your vehicle is fully electric, click the box to confirm that the EV tax will apply.
Click the box to confirm you have valid insurance for your vehicle.

If you want to renew the registrations on more than one vehicle, click Add New Vehicle.

Choose your delivery method.
Not all registries offer mail-out or courier services; you may see more than one delivery option to choose from, or you may just see Customer Pickup.
If you choose the Mail or Courier option, you will need to provide your delivery address. Note: a courier cannot deliver to a PO Box address.

Click Continue

You will see your order information to review, including the total you will be paying.

Choose your Payment Method (you may only see Credit of Debit Card as the option).

Click Proceed to Checkout.

You will receive a confirmation with an order and transaction number, a breakdown of the charge, and a notification that your registry agent will now process your renewal and then contact you.
- You will also receive an emailed receipt.
When your registry has processed your renewal, they will notify you when your registration certificate has been mailed or courier, or if it is ready for you to pick up.
If you receive error messages or other issues with your transaction or payment, please contact the registry directly.
If you need a refund on your Express Renewal transaction, please contact the registry directly.
