What the Automatic Renewal Service can do for you
Albertans have several options when it comes to renewing their vehicle registrations. The Automatic Vehicle Renewal Service does the work of remembering when your vehicle registration is up for renewal, and works with your chosen registry to process your renewal for you automatically.
Here’s what’s great about the automatic renewal system:
You set up and maintain your own account
Renewals are processed every year
You receive reminders that your automatic renewal is coming up, and a receipt when your order has been processed
Your registry will tell when your registration is ready to pick up, or your registration could be mailed or couriered to you
What the Automatic Renewal Service can’t do
Ultimately, every Albertan is responsible for their own vehicle registrations, and must make sure that their registrations are up to date.
The Automatic Renewal Service does not know when you have already renewed for the year, or if you renewed for two years last year.
If you want to stop your automatic renewal for this year, you can temporarily disable your account.
- If you were charged for an automatic renewal and didn’t need one, you can request a refund.
Your Automatic Renewal Account only knows the information you provide it.
- You can edit your account anytime to make changes.
- If you are a Senior and were charged full price for your automatic renewal, you can get a refund and edit your account.
How does an Automatic Vehicle Registration Renewal work?
You will receive an email notice, two weeks prior to the first day of your renewal month, to remind you that your card will be charged and your renewal will be processed. The reminder will show the amount and breakdown of what you will be charged.
- On the first day of your renewal month, your credit card will be charged and you will receive a receipt by email.
- Your registry of choice will process your vehicle registration renewal.
- If your delivery option is “Pick Up” your registry will notify you when your registration certificate is ready to pick up.
- If your delivery options is “Mail”, “Courier” or “Express Post” your registry will send your registration certificate to you.
Points to Remember:
- Your Automatic Renewal Account is not linked to your registry information and does not know if you have already renewed your registration for the year. (If you don’t need your registration renewed automatically, you can edit your account to stop the renewal)
- If you have any outstanding fines, or if there is any other reason why your renewal cannot be processed, your registry will notify you.
