Renewing your vehicle registration using the Alberta eServices website costs about the same as renewing in person at a registry. On your receipt your total fee will show in two parts: the government registration renewal fee and the service charge.

What is included in the fees for renewals?
When you renew online using the Alberta eServices website, you are charged the same renewal fee that you would be charged in person at a registry office.
Seniors (Albertans 65 years old or older) receive a 25% discount on certain personal registry services, and this discount will be applied to your renewal.
If your vehicle is a fully electric vehicle (EV) there will be a $200 EV tax applied (per EV) on your renewal.
Why do I pay service fees?
Registries are private businesses in Alberta, and share with the Provincial Government the work of providing registry services. Therefore, every vehicle renewal fee in Alberta consists of a government portion and a registry portion. The service fees you pay for your renewal make up the registry agent portion.
This system is different from every other province and territory in Canada, where 100% of registry fees are paid to the Provincial or Territorial Government.
