To get ready for your online renewal on the eServices website, you need to make sure you have all the tools you need.
- An Alberta.ca account
The only way to access the eServices site and receive digital registration products is to have an active and verified Alberta.ca account. Signing up for your account is a simple, two-step process, but because you have to wait for an account activation code to reach you by mail, it can take a few days to get your account full set up. Make sure to give yourself enough time to set up your account before you try to access online services.
How to set up your Alberta.ca account
- Your vehicle information
To process your renewal, you will need to provide your license plate number and your vehicle registration number. Both of these can be found on your current vehicle registration certificate.
- Your registration number is located on your registration certificate, under the box labelled Section 1
- The registration number starts with “R” and is nine digits long
- Handy tip: if your license plate number contains a letter O, you will need to enter it as a number 0 on the website (the system does not recognize the letter O)
- A valid method of payment
The eServices site accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Visa Debit and Apple Pay.
Handy tip: don’t forget to include your credit card expiry date and the three-digit CVD code from the back of the card
- A valid email address
Your payment confirmation and receipt will be emailed to you.
Handy tip: If you don’t see your receipt in your Inbox shortly after your transaction has gone through, check the Junk and/or Spam folders.
- A printer, or access to a printer
Your registry product, whether it’s your driver’s abstract or your vehicle registration certificate, will be available to you on your Alberta.ca account, under My Digital Downloads.

In order to have a hard copy (a copy on paper) of your registry product, you will need to print it yourself. A copy on plain paper is a valid, acceptable document.
Handy tip: if you don’t have a printer, you can email your digital download to a friend to print for you, or visit a public library or print centre to print your document there (they may charge a fee to print your document).
